Match report Saturday 5th March 2011

Flamstead v Alpine Press 2

Match report by Jenny Laycock

It was the clash of the greenies vs the greenies this week as we played Alpine Press. Luckily the sun had decided to shine so we didn’t get soaked through to our pants this week! Hot off the amazing win of the week before we were all ready to kick some Alpine bottom. The first quarter got off to a great start with both teams being pretty evenly matched. Centre passes were strong and we were able to work the ball into the circle effectively. The first quarter ended in Alpine Press’ favour at 7 -9. Knowing how well they were playing, Flamstead went onto court in the second quarter with all guns blazing. There were interceptions aplenty in the defending circle, which is a great achievement as the GA was a good 5ft taller than Becky and Tracy. Despite our shooters getting blocked out the circle and having to duck and dive around their opponent the goals keep popping in, which resulted in the second quarter ended 17-17, meaning that Flamstead had won the quarter by two goals. The third quarter followed in a similar way and Flamstead again emerged victorious with the quarter ending 27 – 26.

By the last quarter both teams were getting tired however Flamstead held their own and continued to consistently work their way down court. During this quarter tensions were fraught in both teams and mistakes were made by both sides. The last quarter ended 33 – 34 to Alpine Press, but it was undoubtedly the best netball I have seen Flamstead play. I would like to pay particular thanks to Becky who I owe for all the goals I scored…without her thrusting from the other side I am confident that the final score would have been very different…keep up the good work!
