Match report – Saturday 21st Jnauary 2012

Flamstead v Camelot Reds

Match report by Jenny Laycock

The first quarter got off to a good but slow start. There were plenty of interceptions and turnovers by defence. The defence for Camelot clocked on to the fact that Jenny didn’t usually play GA, when they announced ‘mark her (Nikki – GS) she’s the shooter’…charming!!! The first quarter ended well for Flamstead at 8-5.

The second quarter continued as the first. The defence for Camelot were adament that Nikki wasn’t going to touch the ball during the match and insisted on marking her soley! This left Jenny with the run of the circle and as long as she was close enough to the net, she was able to move the goal tally up! Jenny and Nikki did think that the defence would eventually twig on that perhaps it wasn’t working just marking the GS but they didn’t! The second quarter ended 17 -14, which Flamstead maintaining their lead.

The third quarter was full of turn overs by the Flamstead defence and the ball continued to be worked into the circle well. The third quarter ended 24 -20 to Flamstead.

By the last quarter both teams were getting tired and Flamstead seemed to lose their flow a bit when Camelot came on court fighting. At one point during the last quarter Camelot were winning, managing to pull back the lead from Flamstead. Fortunately, Flamstead rose to the occassion and pulled back to win the game in the last minute – the game ended 30 -29…phew!!!
