Match report 24th November 2012

Match report – Phillippa Mercer

Flamstead Blacks v Alpine Press

On a miserably, wet day in November we had our fixture against Alpine Press. A team we had played sometime before but a slightly different make up of players. The game started off extremely well matched and it was alternate goals for the first quarter. Neither team were gaining any lean to speak of or losing their centre. Final score after the first quarter was 4 goals to us and three to them.

After a quick team morale boost we were back on court. The flow of play was fast on both sides some good interceptions were being made – Wellsie and Emma in particular. The state of play was still very level and no team seemed to be stronger than the other. Becky was brilliant at leaning and defending and showed great strength in being able to ignore unnecessary banter from her opponent. Well done Becky. The second quarter finished 9 goals to us and 8 to them.

Shooting today was pleasing from both Nicky and Tracy. We do not envy the girls positions in goal it is a tense place to be when games are so tightly played. Great work to you both, have faith in your ability Crippsy.

Our mid court play was strong too, we were fortunate enough to have lovely Vicky to play for us and she fitted in beautifully knowing where to be and when. Thanks Vicky for playing for us on such a grey day.

I wanted to celebrate no footwork calls but my team were quick to point one out… shame on me.

The third quarter, notorious for dodgy play, when tiredness kicks in was ironically our best quarter today. Have we shaken off this bad quarter feeling? Play continued to be spaced out when and centres were become overturned more often. Final score for this quarter 15 to Flamstead and 8 to Alpine.

In the last quarter we remained strong and our fitness and communication was great. There was dodging, accurate overheads, targets up, spot on goals and loose balls picked up. In this last quarter we definitely played our own game and I am extremely proud of how we played today. FInal score 21 – 10 to Flamstead.

 Congratulations to everyone
