Match report – 24th March 2012

Match report by Tracy Wells

Flamstead Blacks V LG3

What a beautiful morning to play netball – bright blue skies and warm, glorious sunshine – made play all the more pleasurable and an opportunity to test out those light and airy new kits! There was going to be no allowance for injury as we only had 7 players (Phil – hope you are better soon!).

The first quarter saw Flamstead Blacks off to a flying start, with plenty of interceptions from defence and the ball was flowing well down the court, with good spacing and no calls on footwork. The challenge being to beat LG3 for a second time!  This quarter finished with Flamstead showing potential to win and taking the lead with 9 goals to LG3 scoring 7.

LG3 pulled it back in the second quarter scoring 7 goals to our 3.  Flamstead disadvantaged by bright sunshine, which blocked our view of the net, and a twisted post causing Nikki to shoot at an awkward angle!  LG3 managed to turn over some of our passes, intercepted well and marked defence closely – especially Bryony, who seemed to be getting regularly squished between GS and GA. Score 14 12 to LG3.

Our third quarter, saw some fantastic shooting from LG3’s Goal shooter, despite some great defending in the circle, and they continued to battle for possession.  Flamstead Blacks had a few calls on their footwork and contact from the umpires in this quarter and we seemed to lose our flow up and down the court. LG3 continued to make some good interceptions causing them to take the lead by 5 goals.

Flamstead put in a good fight in the final quarter of this game to try and take the lead and it was evident that every player was putting in the effort to close the gap to win.  Spacing up and down the court improved with good passing in/out of the circle saw Flamstead scoring a further 7 goals, despite Crippsy and Nikki being closely marked. However, LG3 continued to make some significant interceptions causing us to lose possession and their shooters continued to be on fire. LG3 took the lead and the final score saw them win with a score of 33 24.

Thanks to Jo for coaching and supporting in between quarters and to Natalie for umpiring our game.
