Match Report – 22nd September 2011

Match report by Jo Botterman

Flamstead Blacks v Haven Lions

It was a brisk October morning and with everyones spirits high from the previous win, we peeled off the trackie bottoms and were itching to go.

Quarter one kicked off with a few effortless goals due to some swift passing from Flamstead. We piled on the pressure and the defensive duo in the D were restricting the opposition well. Both teams exhibiting a strong centre and good passing from the wings. Down by 7 goals to 10 the first quarter was over.

As the second quarter got underway, the tone of the game was soon set, with Haven overturning one of our centre passes. Both sides were having to work hard when in possession to get round the vigilant sets of defences. Both teams continued to exchange goals, with Flamstead scoring the majority in this quarter. A flaw to the play was the occasional sporadic pass that was leading to turnovers towards the end of the quarter. As the whistle went, Haven found themselves having the slightest edge over us, taking the quarter 18-16.  Down by just 2, captain made a couple of position changes and into the third quarter we steamed.

It was Haven that started the third quarter the better, scoring some easy goals. A very fast paced game – we needed to slow the play down. As the goal difference widened, Flamstead began to wonder; could we turn this around? However, with the score reaching 21-31, Flamsteads shooting started to let us down, coupled with an exhausted centre court.

As the final whistle blew, ending what had been a disappointing game of netball for Flamstead, Haven Lions deservedly walked away with a 41-27 victory.

Chin up girls, we can’t win them all!
