Match Report – 31st March 2012

Match Report by Bryony Freer

Vs Abbey Flyers 2

Having won our last match against Abbey Flyers 40-9, we were determined to keep up the record. Their team was all made up of young players, so we had to work extra hard to keep up our energy! As some of the players in our team were not available, Amber and Claire stepped in as GD and WA, so we must thank them for helping us!

The first quarter started badly for Flamstead, going down 2-0 almost immediately! But we fought on and played our own game, turning over many of their centre passes with flying interceptions (especially from Tracy W and Amber). After the shaky start, we managed to only let them score once more in the whole quarter, finishing in the lead at 13-3.

Our aim for the next quarter was to score 14 and not concede more than 3…but we didnt quite make that. Abbey flyers made a couple of turnovers, but we were still dominating the court! The wind then picked up and shooting was more difficult at both ends, resulting in a reasonably low scoring quarter. Only scoring 11 and conceding 4, we didnt quite make our target, but at half time the score was 24-8 to Flamstead!

In the third quarter, the pace really picked up. Flamstead were able to read what their players were going to do much better, and this was apparent in our play. Abbey flyers got their heads down a bit in this quarter, as again we were commanding the game. Despite conceding 4, we scored 17 to finish the quarter 41-12.

Having played for 45 mins now, both sides were displaying signs of tiredness. The pace of this quarter was much slower, and abbey flyers made some excellent interceptions to turn over quite a few of our centres. But we soon realised this and persevered, finally winning the match 50-19! Well played everyone!
