Match Report – 14th January 2012

Match Report by Nicola Jones

vs Haven Bears

Our first game of 2012.  It was a very cold but bright day and this was a match against a team who had only won one game this season.  We knew that we could (and should) get a good result.  With instructions from Jo fresh in our minds and Tracy (unusually!) winning the first centre pass, the game started well with two quick goals.  It was about 10 minutes  before the ball got into the Bears’ circle as our very strong defence made sure that whenever the ball went towards the other end, an interception was made and the ball delivered to our shooters.  In the first quarter the other team only managed to score one goal to our 12.

The second quarter, and more of the same, we were able to reduce the Bears’ scoring opportunities but our goal count was less as the Bears’ defence got used to our movement in the circle, this quarter ending 19-3.  In the third quarter, the opposition managed to score 3 goals to our 8, score 27-6.  At the break between 3rd and 4th quarters we set ourselves a target of stopping the other team from scoring 4 (as they had managed to score one more goal in each previous quarter!).  Everyone did a grand job and Bears only managed to score 3.  The final result was 34-9.  A brilliant game, the long passes over the ‘D’ that we practiced at training were used to good effect.  Phil’s feet were a bit mischievous in this game, but strangely only at one end of the court!!  Well played everyone and thanks to Natalie for umpiring – this was a great start to the second half of the season!!
