Match report by Sarah Johnson
Flamstead All Blacks v Camelot Blacks

A wave of concern pre match as poor Kerry (GK) had a battle with the M25 and so Sarah J (sub, scorer and court photographer) stepped up to the mark and filled in for the first quarter.

It was great to welcome Nicola (GS) back to the team and she certainly helped Flamstead get off to a very positive start, with the score at 7 – 2 after the first quarter. Jenny (GA) was on fire too, with some great goals and between her and Nicola there was confident movement in and around the D with Phil (C) and Bedders (WA) feeding in well. At half time Flamstead had held onto their lead with the score at 14 – 6.

Although the third quarter turned a bit scrappy the All Blacks still went into the final quarter with an 18 – 13 lead. And then … some fantastic, text book play from Centre passes – going from Centre to WA, back to C, into the D and … GOAL! There was some superb ball handling, particularly by the shooters and let’s not forget the “uncontrolled tipping” by Crippsy (GD) and her catch around the goal post! A special mention should go to Kerry and Crippsy for their tight marking and athletic leaps and leans. Wellsie (WD) played with grit and determination, particularly when it came to the toss-up, and raced around the court with a very focussed look on her face . The final score was a worthy reflection on the added oomph that the All Blacks had in the final quarter, with a tremendous 30 – 17 result. Well done girls!
