3rd October 2009

Flamstead Blacks had their first game of the season in the new Hemel League.

This is the first time the team has played a match in this particular set up of positions; Tracy C – GS, Louise – GA, Bedders – WA, Phil – C, Tracy W – WD, Kerry – GD and Becky – GK. Sub was Catherine. Natalie was making her debut of umpiring at a proper league game.

Our opposition was Haven Blues; we played them in the Summer League and beat them by only 1 goal.

The first quarter we had a lead of around 7 and we continued to build on this in the 2nd & 3rd quarters. There were some fantastic interceptions from Kerry and Tracy W making valuable turn overs. Becky did some great blocking and lovely leans!

Unfortunately Louise had a fall in the 2nd quarter which meant she needed to come off to be cleaned up! Catherine came on as GA for the remainder of the 2nd quarter. Plasters galore Louise returned in the 3rd quarter.

Bedders and Phil did some great balls into the D where Tracy C was doing her best to hold her player to recieve these balls.

Going into the final quarter the score was 10 – 20 to Flamstead however Haven Blues came out fighting and were close to equalising but thankfully the game ended with Flamstead winning 22 – 18.

A great first game and although we made some mistakes (helped by the strong winds) I am proud to say we stuck together and supported each other all through the game. Looking forward to our next game on 17th October.  Tracy x
