15th July 2010 – Match report

By Nicola Jones

Flamstead v Alpine

A well mannered match in very blustery conditions and despite ominous clouds in the sky, it stayed dry.

Flamstead started well and ended the first quarter 6-1 up with some fast goals.  Mid court players managed to bring the ball back up court at each centre pass and there were some great goals from Ethel and Nicola.

The second quarter didn’t go so well, Alpine seemed to reverse the action from the first quarter and the ball was quickly taken down court and despite some strong defending their shooters managed to end the quarter leading 8-7.

We gave ourselves a bit of a talking to a half-time and began to pull things back in the third quarter.  Some persistent defending by Crippsy, Jenny and Catherine ensured that the Alpine attack had a tough time.  Phil as usual was everywhere on court with Bedders coming out for lots of centre passes despite being closely marked by the Alpine WD.  The ball seemed to spend a lot of time going back and forth along the court because of some good defending (not to mention sloppy passing) from both teams but we managed to keep ahead in the second half ending the game victorious at 14-12.

Thanks to Natalie and Claire Bailey for some lovely umpiring.
